Monsal Valley Trail
Headstone Viaduct viewed from Monsal Head
The Monsal Trail tunnels offer one of the most spectacular leisure routes in Britain for cycling, walking and horse riding.
The Monsal trail is an old Railway line that runs between Blackwell Mill and Bakewell, and takes cyclists, walkers, horse riders and wheel chair users through some of the Peak District’s most spectacular limestone dales.
The trail passes through six tunnels and over the impressive Headstone Viaduct, at Monsal Head. The trail runs along the former Midland Railway line for 8.5 miles between Blackwell Mill, in Chee Dale and Coombs Road, at Bakewell. Quite a few people make it part of a day trip to Bakewell.
